Convicted Great Mills Felon Arrested After Threatening to Kill Himself and Others – Police Recover 3D Printer and 3D Printed Firearms – Southern Maryland News Net

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., police responded to Schooner Court in Great Mills to a report of a person threatening to kill their child, the child’s mother, and themselves.

The Emergency Communications Center relayed information from a 911 caller that Sean Michael Rice was on Facetime with her when he began threatening to kill her, a child and himself. She stated that while on Facetime, Rice pulled out a red handgun. placed it close to his head and pulled the trigger. She heard the shots, but the bullet didn’t hit Rice in the head. That’s when she called 911.

Upon arrival, police surrounded the residence and attempted to make telephone contact with Sean Michael Rice, 34, of Great Mills, but he did not respond. After some time, Rice exited his apartment of his own accord through the front door and walked toward his Hyundai Elantra, which was parked in the residence’s driveway. As he walked toward the vehicle, a red handle could be seen sticking out of his sweatshirt pocket. Rice got into the driver’s side of the vehicle, exited a few seconds later and was taken into custody by police without further incident.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Rice did not possess any registered firearms and, as a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing regulated firearms. As Rice was placed in a police vehicle, he was read his Miranda rights. Rice told him he was aware of his rights and agreed to talk to them. Rice admitted to owning several firearms and stated that he had a pistol and a rifle and that both were in his residence. After further questioning, Rice admitted to placing the red gun in the glove compartment of the Elantra before exiting the vehicle and being tackled by police. Rice further revealed that he makes all of his firearms using his 3D printer.

Investigators responded and executed a search warrant on the residence, recovering two handguns, a rifle and 45 rounds of various ammunition. Police also seized a 3D printer, spools containing 3D printed plastic spools associated with the printer, and nine 3D printed handgun frames.

Rice was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a regulated firearm, one count of felony violence, one count of possession of a rifle/shotgun with a felony conviction, one count of illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and three counts of other related weapons offenses.

Rice is currently being held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
