A 26-year-old man was arrested this week and released pending further investigation after Mounties seized weapons made from a 3D printer.
Sergeant. Clay Kronebusch of the Quesnel RCMP said a search warrant executed on Feb. 15 around 7:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Ten Mile Lake Road resulted in the seizure of manufactured firearms and firearm parts, 3D printers and other accessories found at Firearms were used in the manufacture.
Quesnel RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit, in collaboration with the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), conducted the search, which was the result of an investigation into the manufacture of firearms and firearm parts using 3D printers.
The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the British Columbia Public Prosecution Service to determine appropriate charges, police said.
“It is illegal to manufacture firearms and to possess or access computer data that can be used with a 3D printer to produce firearms,” Kronebusch said. “These manufactured firearms can pose a grave danger to the public and police.”
