3Doodler has long been developing pens that extrude not ink, but a special type of plastic that allows you to express your creativity in 3D spaces. But with the Create+ you get a big upgrade compared to previous 3D printing pens. This is all thanks to the new Dual Drive system, which is designed to further increase the device’s performance, durability and reliability.

The Create+ is the first 3D pen ever to use this innovative dual-drive technology, which apparently results in fewer paper jams (which is even worse than running out of ink). And so far, it looks like the device’s testers have found that the company’s claims are true – the stylus is virtually trouble-free.

Additionally, the dual-drive system can support a range of different materials, including a new filament called Flexy (previously 3Doodler pens only supported PLA and ABS plastics). With Flexy, as the name suggests, you can create more flexible objects, such as a smartphone case.

The pen now features a more sophisticated heating algorithm, automatic retraction features to prevent the pen from leaking, and carefully calibrated fast and slow settings depending on what you want to draw in 3D. There’s no setup required to get started with Create+ – once you’ve unboxed the pen, you’re ready to start making it.

“It’s time to bring 3D printers and 3D printed products to a higher standard,” 3Doodler co-founder Maxwell Bogue said of the latest product. “Faulty early generation products are no longer acceptable to the community or end users.”

The Create+ has a range of templates to get you started almost immediately, and also offers users more filament than any other 3D pen currently on the market. The pen is available now starting at $79 in the Essential Set of three plastic packs.
