EOS launches the M 300-4 metal 3D printer with four 1 kW lasers

EOS launches an improved EOS M 300-4 metal additive manufacturing system equipped with four 1 kW lasers.

The EOS M 300-4 1kW is designed to meet the production needs of aluminum and copper applications such as brackets, brackets, antennas and e-mobility components.

EOS launched its M 300-4 system a few years ago. Material Solutions, Incodema3D and Rennscot MFG, among others, have implemented the machine. As EOS now works to further improve the capabilities of its quad laser metal technologies, EOS has integrated the 1kW lasers to provide an increase in productivity compared to the standard M 300-4, which uses four 400W lasers .

The four 1 kW lasers work over a build volume of 300 x 300 x 400 mm and ensure a build rate of 154 mm3/s, a layer thickness of 80 µm and a relative density of 99.5%. EOS’s latest machine is also said to be capable of achieving a tensile strength of 350 MPa, a yield strength of 205 MPa and an elongation at break of 3-5%.

“The EOS M 300-4 has already proven to be a highly productive AM machine for our customers, but we need to meet the growing market demand for demanding materials such as copper and highly productive processes,” commented Sebastian Becker, EOS Metal Systems Lead. “The EOS M 300-4 1kW delivers performance and productivity with maximum reliability, achieving the lowest cost per part in the industry.”

“Additive manufacturing offers transformative potential, particularly for products such as aluminum cylinder heads, which have traditionally been produced using die casting,” added Manja Franke, chief strategy officer at AMEXCI, a leading AM company in the Nordics. “The speed and performance of new AM platforms such as the EOS M 300-4 1 kW enable us to manufacture complex components while ensuring improved design flexibility, weight reduction and preparation for future emissions standards. Compared to traditional methods, the cost-effectiveness of AM is critical and systems such as the EOS M 300-4 1kW offer the opportunity to achieve this. Therefore, our partnership with EOS aims to maximize productivity and expand the competitive boundaries of AM.”

The EOS M 300-4 1kW is scheduled to be commercially available in February 2024 and is compatible with AlSi10Mg, copper and copper alloys, with the material portfolio for the system to be expanded depending on customer requirements. EOS will also be offered the Volkmann PowTrex EOS Edition powder handling system to further optimize the product offering. Further details will be announced later in 2023.

The M 300-4 1 kW from EOS will be presented and put into operation at Formnext 2023 in Frankfurt from November 7th to 10th in Hall 11.1, Stand D41.
