Shiny color using 0.2mm layers; matte if 0.05mm layers

The print comes out shiny using 0.2mm layers. I also tried printing using 0.05mm layers – the print comes out matte, the shine is gone. So print using 0.2mm or thicker layers to get the good color. Otherwise, it prints like normal PLA.

MKOEM Filaments

I have tested a variety of MKOEM filaments, and I have been pleased overall with the results. Despite being the same brand, the colors do not all have the same properties. The Silk and Metallic filaments were very impressive and beautiful to me. I didn’t have trouble with either of these. The rainbow filament impressed me less but worked fine. Just not everything I hoped for. The glow-in-the-dark filament initially disappointed me but ended up performing acceptably once I fine-tuned my settings. In the case of the latter two filaments, I am inclined to give them more patience since they are specialty products that I assume are more complicated to produce. Overall, this is a good line of products. I have added more on my thoughts about each filament I sampled below.
Glow-In-the-Dark Filament
If this were standard filament, I would have been harsher in my rating, but I am inclined to be more patient with it since it glows in the dark. Most filaments I print with extrude and adhere fine for me because I print in an enclosure and usually spray a little hair spray for good measure. When I initially tried this filament with my standard PLA settings, which were on the lower end of the printed recommendations, the print was patch and adhesion was awful. After a second failure, I patiently tried again and adjusted to the upper end of the recommended temp while also raising the bed temp and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it printed nicely. There were a few rough edges, but overall, the quality is good. I recommend a temp of 220 and a adding a few degrees to the bed temp when working with this filament.
The filament in the raw form felt rougher than most filaments to slide my finger across and a bit more prone to being brittle. That said, those qualities did not prevent it from printing.
It does seem to glow fine after exposed to light and is about what I expected in that regard.
Overall, I have my hesitation with this filament, but I am happy with it overall and I think the fact that it glows makes it worthwhile.
Silk Sky Blue Filament
The Silk Sky Blue is beautiful and printed nicely. The blue is particularly soft to the touch on the reel and feels like it won’t break easily.
Silk Metallic Copper
The Silk Metallic Copper Filament has a beautiful Sheen to it. A terrific color and filament that printed perfectly for me in my test print.
Silk Metallic Gold
The Silk Metallic Gold is another beautiful roll of filament that printed nicely, similarly to the other silk and metallic filaments.
Rainbow Filament
This filament is all right. When my brain read the description, I initially thought it was color changing filament, meaning it would change from a color to transparent under different conditions. Of course, this is not the case, and the color change is the change of colors as the filament feeds through the printer. In my case, I started with a relatively small test print, and it simply came out light blue. So, the fast color change was not fast enough for me to have multiple colors in my very small print. While there may be some situations in which the semi-transparent nature of the filament is useful, I haven’t found it very satisfying and a think a result of attempting to make it semi-transparent is that the colors are less robust.
Overall, I think this filament is fine. It extruded and adhered without any issues for me. The texture of the filament isn’t as smooth as some others I have worked with, but it could be the right choice for circumstances.
