During the search, investigators learned that the 14-year-old was in class at Montgomery High School. Investigators responded to campus and instructed a teacher to discreetly remove him from class.

Police said the teen was arrested without incident and taken to the juvenile detention center. He is charged with possession of a non-serialized firearm, possession of a handgun as a minor, unlawful manufacture of a firearm, and gang enhancement.

Wednesday’s arrest was the latest in a long series of violent incidents involving teenagers at Santa Rosa and the school. In March 2023, A Montgomery High student was fatally stabbed during an argument with two other students.

The incident led to the realization of the principal and his deputy principal was placed on leave when two other students were arrested for bringing knives onto campus in the weeks following the incident.

In September 2023, Two brothers from Montgomery High School were arrestedafter one of the brothers became a suspect in a fight on a nearby middle school campus and the second brother was found to be in possession of an assault rifle.

Last month, police arrested a 14-year-old student at the school after she allegedly led a group attack on another 14-year-old girl in a campus restroom.

Ten teenagers were also arrested in January in the knife attack on a 41-year-old man who was riding his bicycle near Bellevue Ranch Park. Police said he is expected to survive.

A 16-year-old was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly threatened a Montgomery High student on his way to school. Police said the suspect was brandishing a knife and appeared to be drunk.

Increasing gang violence among youth in Santa Rosa led to this the recent reinstatement of the police department’s gang crime team.
