3D Systems (NYSE:DDD) introduced the new MJP 300W wax 3D printer and the VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby, two additions to its portfolio of end-to-end jewelry manufacturing solutions. The company’s new MJP 300W is the most advanced and flexible of its wax 3D printers, capable of handling a variety of jewelry manufacturing workflows with improved productivity, efficiency, quality and design freedom.
Additionally, 3D Systems’ new VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby material is a robust, temperature-stable pure wax that offers an optimal combination of flexible material properties and good dimensional stability in high temperature environments. This makes it possible to retain details of the most intricate jewelry designs during the molding process, reducing the likelihood of breakage or deformation and producing a flawless final piece. The combination of this printing platform and material enables wax jewelry pattern makers – from high volume manufacturers to custom jewelry makers – to realize new designs more efficiently with greater design freedom and improved surface finish.
As we have demonstrated extensively in our reporting over the last decade, 3D printing has the potential to play an increasingly important role in jewelry manufacturing, enabling efficient design and production of unique patterns not possible using traditional methods. This allows jewelry manufacturers to mass customize to meet the specific needs of consumers in a rapidly changing market. 3D Systems’ wax materials portfolio, combined with its industry-leading 3D printing portfolio and software integration, is well positioned to play a critical role in accelerating adoption of the technology.
The MJP 300W wax printer is part of 3D Systems’ next generation jewelry manufacturing solutions, introducing two new printing modes that further increase the flexibility of the platform to deliver higher levels of productivity and quality.
Improved resolution and efficiency
With the introduction of the MJP 300W, 3D Systems introduces two new printing modes: QHD and UHD. The QHD mode enables more than 50% improved resolution in all axes (i.e. 2,000 dpi in X, 1,800 dpi in Y, 2,900 dpi in Z) and a layer thickness of 9.5 µm compared to the wax 3D printer previous generation. This achieves a premium surface finish, allowing designs to be produced with less post-processing. QHD also enables printing of more complex designs where polishing is impractical or impossible. UHD mode offers twice the print speed of XHD on the ProJet® MJP 2500W Plus, launched earlier this year. UHD offers significantly higher throughput and reduces the amount of work required for finishing and polishing. The availability of four print modes (QHD, UHD,
The company has also made it easier to monitor the progress of a print job by adding an industrial indicator light. This highly visible light can be conveniently positioned to ensure the best visibility on the printer or an adjacent surface such as a desk or cabinet. Additionally, reliability improvements through printhead and hardware modifications increase uptime by reducing replacement frequency and reducing operating costs.
VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby is a medium soft wax that provides the optimal combination of material flexibility properties and dimensional stability in high temperature or humidity environments. Provides improved stone presetting capabilities.
100% wax material. Offers optimized properties
VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby from 3D Systems is the company’s most advanced material, providing long-lasting patterns that help create flawless finished pieces. Samples made with VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby exhibit higher thermal stability compared to the recently introduced VisiJet Wax Jewel Red. Additionally, samples created with VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby have a durability that allows them to withstand breakage under normal handling and maintain their dimensional stability even when shipped. This latest material also allows stones to be pre-set to speed up the creation of the final piece.
Shashidhar Kumar, Partner at Shree Rapid Technologies, explains: “We were pleased to have early access to this material for our jewelry manufacturing applications.” Our experience has shown that it is very easy to handle and delivers patterns with improved strength and flexibility, so we can offer our customers higher quality and longer lasting samples. Additionally, the material is best suited for pre-setting stones, helping our customers increase efficiency when producing pieces with intricate details.”
VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby further expands the extensive range of addressable designs and complements 3D Systems’ currently available wax materials – VisiJet Wax Jewel Red and VisiJet M2 Cast – which can also be used in conjunction with the MJP 300W.
“One of the greatest benefits of additive manufacturing is the unrestricted freedom of design, which is particularly important for unlocking the creativity needed by skilled craftsmen,” said Marty Johnson, Vice President, Product & Technical Fellow, 3D Systems. “With the introduction of the MJP 300W and our new VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby material, we are providing manufacturers of wax jewelry casting patterns with expanded capabilities to improve productivity and processes that ensure reliability. 3D Systems’ complete systems integration of materials, printer, printing process and software, strengthened by our application expertise and global customer success team, enables our jewelry manufacturing customers to achieve new levels of innovation, quality and reliability. The latest additions to our end-to-end jewelry manufacturing solutions reinforce our commitment to responding to our customers’ needs and achieving an unprecedented level of agility with ease of use that ensures high-quality results at any scale.”
The MJP 300W and the VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby are both scheduled to be available in November 2023.
