America Makes and ANSI launch on-line portal for monitoring additive manufacturing requirements

America Makes, the Ohio-based nationwide accelerator for additive manufacturing, and the American Nationwide Requirements Institute (ANSI) have launched an on-line portal for monitoring standardization exercise in additive manufacturing.

The interactive portal compiles the gaps in requirements for additive manufacturing, recognized by way of America Makes and ANSI’s Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing (Model 2.zero) revealed in June 2018. It will likely be commonly up to date primarily based on the work completed by requirements growing organizations (SDOs) to handle the gaps in additive manufacturing requirements. America Makes Govt Director John Wilczynski feedback:

“The brand new on-line portal will assist to make the AMSC roadmap a ‘residing doc’ that retains additive manufacturing stakeholders knowledgeable on the most recent requirements growth actions.”

Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing

Working collectively, America Makes and ANSI have shaped the Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC), which they formally launched in March 2016. It’s a cross-sector coordinating physique aiming to speed up the event of industry-wide additive manufacturing requirements and specs, funded by the U.S. Division of Protection (DoD).

AMSC was launched to assist coordinate the efforts of SDOs, who’re engaged on growing requirements for numerous facets of additive manufacturing. The companions noticed the necessity to coordinate the work so as to set up a constant, harmonized, and non-contradictory set of additive manufacturing requirements.

Initially, the AMSC launched model 1.zero of the Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing in March 2017. Specializing in the important thing industries of aerospace, protection and drugs, the doc identifies 89 gaps in applicable requirements and specs for 3D printing and its associated processes.

After releasing a preliminary draft, model 2.zero was then launched a 12 months later as an replace on the unique doc, itemizing an elevated 93 gaps the place no revealed commonplace or specification at present exists to reply to a selected want. Over 150 stakeholders, together with GE, EOS, Autodesk, Arconic, Apple, Boeing and 3D Programs, participated within the manufacturing of the AMSC additive manufacturing roadmap

The AMSC on-line portal

AMSC’s on-line, interactive portal permits stakeholders to watch the progress of AMSC members in establishing additive manufacturing requirements. Members embody non-public , unique tools producers (OEMs), materials suppliers, authorities, academia, requirements growing organizations (SDOs), and different stakeholders.

The portal incorporates all 93 gaps recognized within the model 2.zero roadmap. It’s divided into sections similar to the requirements classes established by the roadmap.  These sections embody design; precursor supplies; course of management; post-processing; completed materials properties; qualification and certification; nondestructive analysis; and upkeep and restore.

“ANSI is at all times on the lookout for methods to ship added worth to the group, and the AMSC portal supplies customers a simple approach to verify on the standing of labor to develop additive manufacturing requirements,” added ANSI President & CEO S. Joe Bhatia.
