German rail firm Bombardier Transportation has put in a Stratasys F900 3D printer at its Hennigsdorf facility, north-west of Berlin.
The F900 FDM/FFF printer will probably be used for the manufacturing of tooling, prototyping, and end-use components for trains and trams. The components will probably be included in Bombardier’s manufacturing operations for DACH nations together with Germany, Austria, Switzerland.
André Bialoscek, Head of Car Bodily Integration Hennigsdorf at Bombardier, mentioned, “The Stratasys F900 3D Printer permits us to widen our service providing in such a approach that we at the moment are capable of 3D print massive spare components, personalized rail components, and manufacturing instruments – all in-house and on-demand.”

On the tracks of Bombardier Inc.
Based in 1942, Bombardier started as a producer of snowmobiles. The corporate is now world and one of many largest producers of plane, trains, commuter subways, public buses, and different industrial automobiles like snowcat, a tracked car for shifting on snow.
Bombardier Transportation is a rail tools division of Bombardier Inc. It manufactures passenger trains, locomotives, chassis for trains, controls and propulsion techniques. In 2001, Bombardier Transportation acquired the German rail tools producer Adtranz from DaimlerChrysler. With this acquisition, Bombardier Transportation grew to become the biggest rail tools producer.
With the set up of the Stratasys F900 3D printer, Bombardier Transportation expects vital good points. Bialoscek mentioned, “Having beforehand used fiberglass and tin for prepare elements, the power to now make the most of ULTEM 9085 resin meets our utility standards and takes us to a brand new degree by way of decreasing the prices and prolonged lead instances related to these conventional supplies.”

3D printing in railway
With initiative’s comparable to this from Bombardier, the Mobility Goes Additive challenge from Deutsche Bahn, and a dedication from Angel Trains and ESG Rail it’s secure to say that 3D printing’s utility on the railways is gaining traction.
Including additional perception Andreas Langfeld, President EMEA Stratasys, mentioned, “Bombardier Transportation’s funding in our F900 3D Printer is synonymous with the massive curiosity we’re seeing within the mobility sector for industrial-grade 3D printing options […] We sit up for working carefully with Bombardier Transportation to help the deployment of this know-how inside their operations and allow them to supply personalized rail components on-demand – sooner and extra cost-effectively than ever earlier than.”
“Our FDM-based additive manufacturing know-how provides rail firms and upkeep service suppliers superior, rail-certified supplies, massive construct trays for larger rail components, and importantly, the very best degree of print reliability and repeatability within the trade.”
